Hatchery – a place where little hens are sentenced for lifelong exploitation and male chicks are treated as a side effect to the industry.
In the UE alone, there are over 360 million laying hens. Most of them are kept in cages their entire lives. From the moment they hatch out they are kept in hangars, away from the sunlight, fresh air or green grass. Imprisoned for life.
Male chicks, on the other hand, are useless to the industry, so they are killed on the first day of their lives. They are either gassed to death, ground alive or suffocated in plastic bags.
