Globally, over 300 million turkeys are killed every year. In America, for Thanksgiving alone, over 45 million birds are killed.
An adult female can weigh up to 18 kg, male turkey can weigh as much as 40 kg. They live in male/female only cubicles. Turkey farming method is similar to chicken farming, they are fattened indoor in large purpose-built houses. A farming cycle lasts around 12-14 weeks.
A turkey is much more fragile in the first few weeks of life than a chicken, and the mortality rate is higher. Weaker birds are often stampeded by larger ones.
Turkeys are rarely given enough space or facilities for natural behaviors, such as foraging or perching or moving around freely.
